in most cases paper or work are accumulated through years. It's true that
some american professors are in early 40s or even late 30s, but that is still
a very small percentage out of thousands of American faculties, while the
number of Chinese faculties we are looking at here is in hundreds at most.

Another big disadvantage for Chinese faculties is their communication skills
as well as social skills. In many instances, to earn a full professorship is
kind of similar as doing politics. It requires lots of ren2 ji4 guan1 xi4.

I don't know the situation in other schools. The only example I can use is one
of the mainland professors listed here whose lab is upstairs of me. He is
definitely one of the best facuties in this national top 5 department, which
has many full professors. He joined this department a year later than my
boss, both of who came out from their postdoc work. By far I would say he
has done a better job than my boss, publication-wise or work-wise. He has
huge grants these years and became an associate professor a couple of years
ago and remained so. However, my boss, who is only 43 now, has got a full
professorship last year and became a head of a department.

Anyway, I am not saying Chinese facuties are doing better research than
Americans. But I don't think it's very reasonable or fair to compare their
success by their academic positions.
