refer to Mol. Cloning.
DH5a supE44/delLacU169/hsdR17/recA1/endA1/gyrA96/thi-1/relA1
JM109 supE44/del(lac-proAB)/hsdR17/recA1/endA1/gyrA96/relA1/thi
F'[traD36 proAB+ lacIq lacZdelM15]
it seems to me that the difference exists with the F' factor.
i think DH5a is typically used for white-blue screening by
alpha-complement and also a common host for plasmids. JM109,
according to the comment, supports growth of vectors carrying
amber mutation and will modify but not restrict transfected
DNA. (Yanisch-Perron 1985). so what is your experiment?

: Any significant difference between these 2 cells,
: how to determine which one should use in transformation?
: Just confused.
: Anyone can help?
