Normally for antigens inside a cell, antibody is not very effective because
it's too big and can't enter the cell.
There are other cellular immune mechanisms involved in fight AIDS virus such
as generating cytokines.
AIDS virus enters T-lymphocyte with CD4 receptors. A small percentage of
people have an altered CD4 receptor which renders them AIDS-free. This depends
on the individual's genes.
Too much immune response leads to quick death because the individual's
infected lymphocytes may be destroyed fast and there are not enough
T-lymphocytes to fight other diseases.
Too little immune response also leads to quick death because the infected
lymphocytes lose function quickly.
Most of the time it depends on genes.
