You have to intimate your de novo idea to the boss to the degree that he feels
it is very important to do, as his own idea! Also, you have to intimate your
promotion to the local environment that all the other lab members feel that
your promotion is their promotions! To reach the first point, you have to give
the boss an impression that your idea inspired by his previous work. To get
the second goal, you have to support some of the other people's ideas in the
group. This is the so called personal determination factor. When you have no
time to do the previous two things, you can simply contribute your idea to the
boss. When he feels it as important, you can be a silent follower to do your
initiation. For your co-workers, they would not appreciate how your idea is
going to be great and important; your staying has to make them live well.
