I think citation is also important. That means speed is
important. The earlier you get published, the more
citation you got.
If that PNAS paper is from a competing group, definitely
move fast. In a hot area, speed is evry important. There
are good papers in JBC which have been cited many times.
if your boss is member of NAS, or he knows NAS members,
then you may consider PNAS (Track I or track III).
My boss usually try a high journal first, if rejected,
he will go to JBC directly. He said, the most important
thing is to cover the field; so, if you publish anything
that is new, many people will cite your work, and you
will have impact in this field.
【 在 windysea (雨瞳~甜心小猪) 的大作中提到: 】
: I recenly sumitted my first paper to Cell,
: (my boss never published in Cell, he previously went mainly for Nature
series
: and Science)
: and today we got 10 pages of comments from 3 reviewers, with dosens of
points
: from each one, in front of which the editor says "significant further work
: would be necessary to support definitive conclusions" and gives us only 2
: months.
:
: my boss said he never saw so many comments, and it's almost impossible we
can
: make it, plus a couple of days ago one PNAS paper came out, which might
: partially damage our conceptual novelty, although about totally paralell
: subject and not contradicting with our story. my boss said that we need to
: move fast, and we could go for EMBO.J etc but may still get tons of
comments,
: and that JBC may be safe to go.
:
: Anybody would share experience of publishing and give some advice?
