Sodium pyruvate serves as an additional energy source for cells in culture.
Cells can become "hooked" on sodium pyruvate however, and if it is withdrawn
suddenly from the media, they may experience a short lag in growth.
L-glutamine is essential in cell culture. After deamination, it is used as an
energy source for cultured cells as well as being incorporated into protein
and used in nucleic acid metabolism. L-glutamine undergoes spontaneous
degradation over time in solution.GlutaMAX™ is a stabilized, dipeptide
form of L-glutamine. This direct substitute for L-glutamine is extremely
stable and prevents degradation and toxic ammonia build-up even during long-
term culture.
MEM + sodium bicarbonante + Gln+
10%
: serum
: DMEM, with Glutamax, with high glucose, with 110 mg/L sodium pyruvate, with
: pyridoxine-HCl.
Gibco (Invitrogen), Cat# 10569-010.
