Read following papers:
1.) Wickner RB. [URE3] as an altered URE2 protein - evidence for
a prion analog in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Science.
264(5158):566-569,1994 Apr 22
This is *the* classic paper that got the whole show on the road
withrespect to prions in yeast.
2.) Edskes HK. Gray VT. Wickner RB. The [URE3] prion is an
aggregated form of Ure2p that can be cured by overexpression of
Ure2p fragments. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of
the United States of America. 96(4):1498-1503, 1999 Feb 16.
3.) Schlumpberger M. Prusiner SB. Herskowitz I. Induction of
distinct [URE3] yeast prion strains. Molecular & Cellular Biology.
21(20):7035-7046, 2001 Oct.
These are two review articles that may be of help.
Wickner RB. Taylor KL. Edskes HK. Maddelein ML. Moriyama H.
RobertsBT. Prions in Saccharomyces and Podospora spp.: Protein-based
inheritance. Microbiology & Molecular Biology Reviews.
63(4):844-+,
1999 Dec.
Wickner RB. Edskes HK. Maddelein ML. Taylor KL. Moriyama H.
Prions
of yeast and fungi - Proteins as genetic material. Journal of
Biological Chemistry. 274(2):555-558, 1999 Jan 8.
If you do want to discuss the human prions, here are
tworeviews:
Pruisner, S.B. Prions. Proceedings of the National Academy of
Sciences of the United States of America. 95:13363-13383, Nov.
1998.
Weissmann, C. Molecular genetics of transmissible spongiform
encephalopathies. J. Biol. Chem. 274(1):3-6. 1999.
