no,
to study an unknow gene, u need northern first ahead of RT-PCR.
until you have a very specific question about a gene, which
has been studied for a long time.
there are several reasons:
(1) the distribution of a gene
(2) the abundance of a gene
(3) possible isoforms of a gene
such as a simple question is here: the the gene is 3 kb or longer,
u can easily meet a lot of PCR problems to amplify it.

: : RT will not help if Northern will not help. You can not prove the point
: : mutation is not generated during RT.
