it is very tricky.
first of all it depends on how well the protein is know. any binding partners
? which part of the protein is
responsible for the binding? if you know delete that part. or if a point
mutation can disrupt the interaction,
do a knock-in.
secondly, if it is in Drosophila and associated with visible phenotype, you
may generate point mutations
with EMS when you definitely need to get one.
third, just make a serial deletion knock out mice, and see what happens.
