It actually is not a joke.

UWB is dead for sure. People start saying UWB is dead since 3, 4 years ago.
If you know the history, you would know how much Intel has bet on UWB. Now y
ou read the news that Intel is not doing it any more, what else do you expec
t to revive UWB?

Sure, Intel has a lot of money. It moved on to WiMAX with lost of money. I a
m sure you heard many people nowadays saying that WiMAX is dead. From my per
sonal point of view, WiMAX will not be totally dead. But it definitely can n
ot compete with LTE at all. It will probably stay in a niche market, or some
developing country. We will not see much footprint of WiMAX in China or US,
for example.

So, Intel moved on again to millemeter wave 60 GHz. Well, it is not a pionee
r of it. But anyway, Intel is investing much in this area now. WHo knows wha
t the future will be for 60 GHz. Is it doomed since Intel put his feet in th
is water?

Let time tell us the story then.

UWB lost the momentum already, so it will be dead if it hasn't been yet. Tec
hnology is not so important in my personal opinion. It's the market that dic
tates. Besides, the whole purpose of 60 GHz is to replace UWB, doing everyth
ing that UWB can do and even faster. With SiBEAM's chip more and more mature
, I really do not believe much chance left for UWB.

I agree that UWB is not good. But I still see lots of papers in ISSCC09 on
UWB...

我从来不袅UWB. UWB一直在叫高速率低功耗。但速率和11n差不多，功耗在1w左右（一
点也不低）。由于其RF带宽高，analog的成本也高。性能价格都不好，不死才怪。

想想BLUETOOTH,很多很难讲的。就UWB本身技术的挑战性来讲，还是很超前的。也许这
一波会死掉，不过就技术本身而讲，应该是代表了一个趋势，谁先把稳定的solution做
出来，就发大了，这本身就是技术的挑战及其魅力。
