标 题: 面对父母养老问题，是归还是留？

LD马上面临找工作了，如果在美国找的话会朝faculty方向找；如果回国的话也是打算
争取进高校，另外同时会和朋友合开公司。LD的意向是可留可归，没有什么倾向。我非
常喜欢美国，从自身角度考虑很想留在这。但是一想起以后父母的养老，就不知道留在
这是不是不够理智。我所顾虑的就是这边的医疗费用。如果我和LD都是faculty，会有
能力支付起四位老人在美国的医疗费用吗？

you are thinking too far ahead.

I bet that you won't return to China for any reason.

So the only question is whether you can afford to care for your parents here
in US. The anaswer is yes but with lots of efforts. It is the same thing
everywhere. Caring for elderlies is difficult for everyone.

Don't worry about the medical care. Ask your parents if they want to come
and stay in USA. My parents visited me twice and would nerve want to come
again. They felt so boring here.

谢谢楼上两位的回复。你们的意思是医疗费用不会是问题？我对美国的保险不太了解，
以前看到有的帖子好像说保险公司不愿意卖给没有在美国工作过的老年人保险。如果是
这样的话，自费给父母出医疗费用对于双职工也是能出得起的吗？谢谢！

别太天真想自费给老人出医疗费，估计年入40万美金也不敢自费医疗。千万要搞定保险
先。

If your parents become US permanent resident, they can go on Medicaid, the
medical insurance system for poor people. Mind you many good doctors don't
take Medicaid patients.

If your parents become US Permanent resident and receive social-security
eligible income for 10 years, they can qualify for Medicare, the US health
insurance for older people.

In order for them to become permanent resident, you and your husband has
to become US citizen first. So if it takes n years for you to become
permanent resident, it would take n+5 years for you to become citizen. it
would take n+7 years for your parents to become permanent resident, and it
would take n+17 years for them to become Medicare eligible. Got it? still
want to try? by then, Medicare and social security might already be
bankrupt.

If your parents are young, you can ask them to come and count on them not
being ill. Don't go to the emergency room - many people will tell you that
anyone can go to the emergency room for free - this is true, but emergency
rooms are *free hell*.

If you care about your parents, then consider the option of going back to
China carefully.
