I don't know what the news means. Food price has increased around the world, including China. In the past week, many nations have banned export of rice to ensure supply to their own people. These I know. But I still don't know why Hong Kong people rush to buy rice. Do they anticipate shortage? Or do they anticipate price increase (ie, inflation)? What about US, which used to push Taiwan and Japan to import rice? Can't HK buy rice from US? By the way, everybody kknows I left taiwan two decades ago. Back then Taiwanese just did not eat Thai rice, because it did nto taste good. I am surprised that HK people eat it and are scared when Thai rice may be in shortage. -- ※ 来源:·WWW 未名空间站 海外: mitbbs.com 中国: mitbbs.cn·[FROM: 65.217.]

Nobody explained why the news meant. It just happened that yesterday, I read the latest issue of The Economist, a weekly published in both London and US. There is a relevant article titled "Rice and politics; Needed: a new revolution" and dated Mar. 27, 2008. The article did not talk about HK, Taiwan, China or US, but may help you understand the situation. -- ※ 来源:·WWW 未名空间站 海外: mitbbs.com 中国: mitbbs.cn·[FROM: 65.217.]
