I can't believe that Poo is doing micromanagement and so pushy like this. I
guess that's one way to make you lab super-productive, but on the other hand
doing scientific research becomes such an extremely painful career. Obviously
there are many PIs like Poo, and these people can somehow justify their style
by their own success. But luckily the PIs I have worked with happen to be on
the opposite side, and I guess that's probably one of a major reasons I'm
still doing science and enjoy doing that. They only recruit trainees that are
highly motivated and have true interest in doing science. They let you choose
your own projects, even these projects might not align perfectly with the lab'
s focus. They let you handle the projects independently, and control your own
pace. They don't bug you when you run into troubles. But they are always
available when you need advice. As the result, the labs become magnet of a
very small number of very creative people. It just feel so great to be among
these people and doing exciting stuffs.
